    Locked Classified Adds

I know it would be a lot of extra work dumped on mods/admins, but if at all possible I'd like to see classified adds locked once the items have been sold.

    Justification:
    1. It would save the masses from opening for sale ads and getting their hopes/dreams shattered.
    2. It would prevent dead posts getting replies years later.

It's a good idea. But looking at some of the For Sale ads, especially the ones with dozens of items for sale, it would be such a hassle to go through all the threads and see what actually sold. Lots of guys aren't good at keeping their threads up to date. Myself included

I wouldn't want them to personally.

If I have a part and want to judge it's value, i'd go looking in previous for sale threads to see what the others went for

Right, good point, so you can go back and see if its what you thought you bought.

Yes, thats a good point. But you would think the software could handle it. Its not like this has not been going on for years.

    Thanks for the feedback @MTech

    Spark Notes:

Users should be responsible for updating / editing their thread; not forum management. Locked threads are still viewable and we will not be deleting threads.

    Keep reading for details..

I agree that it would make browsing easier but at the expense of forum management time. And when a non-regular user posts, who is supposed to track them down to confirm if their item is still sold or available? That is a whole other can of worms that I personally am not interested in opening.

    1. Locking a thread prevents replies, but it is still viewable. Thus, the OP and forum management would likely receive PM's asking why they cannot reply to XYZ Thread. Deleting "sold" threads would negate this, but I'm not about to do that as it provides great content as well as helps people find similar items for price checks, pictures, and other useful things.
    2. Sure but a reply that resurrects an old thread isn't a big concern IMO.

I will take a look at adding some additional thread title prefix control (FS, FT, WTB, WTT, SOLD) which would make browsing the Classified Ads easier.

Couldn't agree more. If an item sells, remove the picture, remove the part. Super frustrating to look at
    Xxx-sold
    ***-sold

I am not sure if the op wants a pat on the back for selling parts, or just tease all the people who didn't get to buy it. Takes just as much time to delete as to type.

My giving my 2 cents, and I am sure I'll get change back.

You always get change my friend. Always! But I totally agree. It is funny reading about an entire engine package or suspension setup in full detail only to see sold after.
I at least give exact change.

Would be nice to delete it if it's sold. Just muddies up the post and makes it harder for potential buyers to figure out what is still there.

    Thanks for the change.

Marking individual items "Sold" is good. And when all items are sold, marking the thread title with a "Sold" prefix is a great solution. I personally like finding old FS threads to help determine value and such. But to each their own.
